Heather be her name................

0600 am this morning I was put through a workout by the personal trainer at my gym. Heather (ex-military) put me through my paces for almost an hour and a 1/2!!!! From lifting weights (squats etc) to putting my fat ass on the floor with the gym full of people working out to make me do push up and crunchs and leg lifts and these killer movements she calls "planks". Then at the end she puts me on the treadmill and I increase my speed to a fast walking pace and she starts to increase the incline and slowly takes me up to a 15 incline.

Every cell in my body is sore, but not painful. I LOVED MY WORKOUT!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait till Friday to do it again. She has me to a day after Turkey Trot 5k!!!!! I need this pushing!!!!!!!

More to share later!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its Been a Long Time......................

Its been a long time since I last "blogged". Don't know where really to start, but will give it a "tri".

Life has been both crazy and lazy aroung the house. Still working 40+ hours a week as a Nursing Supervisor and started my part-time position working for a local doctor doing testing on his patients for vascular disease and am still studying for my BS in Nursing but switching schools (am still on-line, new program moves faster). Also attending every Friday nite high school football games watching my baby boy (6ft 5 280) play starting nose guard for our varsity team (ranked #10 in our divsion in the state) and focusing on my daughter as she starts her freshman year in college, and spending quailty time with my wife.

Since I work everyother weekend, my wife and I have been taking one day on our weekend off and spending doing something fun and away from the house. Been going to local parks for walks, lunches out etc.

So, haven't been blogging myself but have been reading other blogs in our blog community.

I fell off the diet wagon, but with no weight gain. Workouts slowed but did not stop. I picked up a new toy to help with my training. Nike ipod. Love it!!!!! I don't wear Nikes but got a sensor pocket to lace in my shoes.

Last night in the mail was a newsletter from my community center and in it talked about the upcomong events.....and then there was a small text box.....Indoor Triathlon March 30, 2008.

So, I called and spoke with Heather, who is in charge of this event. She also does personal training there. So, I was scheduling a visit with her to go over the weight machines and we started to discuss the indoor triathlon (500m swim/15mi bike/5k run) and asked her what she thought about a "Super Clydesdale" doing her event to which she replied...Yes.

She then told me that she was a former master fitness specialist with the Army and asked if she could mentor me. Inside I was screaming YESSSSSSSSS!! So to be cool I responded, yeah sure .

So, fellow bloggers do you think that with training and a lot of dedication, that this Super Clydesdale in 5 and 1/2 months train for an indoor event?
500m swim in pool
15mi on spinner bikes
5k on a treadmill

Again thanks to all of you.....Duane, The Wimmers, Obrats and many others who have allowed me into your world and shared with me training tips, stories and above all else inspiring me to be a better, fitter me.

My New Addition to Our Household

I would like to inroduce you to the newest member of our household...................

My Schwinn 103 Stationary Bike

(No not me on the bike.......................)

Loaded with lots of goodies. I will be able to take a ride in the morning prior to going to work and work my workouts around my many obligations. I have been eyeing this baby for a while and my wife and I were out for a fun day just hanging out having lunch and shopping when I just happen to drive by the bike shop and went in "just to take a look , hon, honestly" and the tri gods were smiling upon me, when I saw a big red sale tag "$100 OFF" .

I looked at the missus and she gave me the eye, no not the evil eye, but the eye when you wife gives you the look. "like what are you up to?". She then says....good ahead!!!!........................YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Luck me for me I was driving my SUV with all that room to haul it home. Now all I have to do this eveing is to read the manual.

I need to build a workout plan. I looked at Micheal Pates When Big Boys Tri plan on the Beginner Tri web site, but don't know if I am quite ready for the pool.

Well got to go my new toy is calling me.

Wow ..has it really been since 8/22 since the last time I shared anything with you? Well weight loss has kinda of hit a wall. Down 6lbs in last week or two. Starting new program "HMR Program at home"..low calorie. Back in stride working out.

Just been working way too much. Not only working but also doing on-line degree program and I have contracted with a local doctor to help in his office on my days off during the week. Then on Wednesday evening all of us days feed the football team after their practice (tonite hot dogs and brats plus other goodies) and then its the football game on Fridays. (We are 3-0 so far going into league play, son is starting nose guard on defense).

I continue to read your postings as I draw my inspiration from all of you. I just watched my copied Biggest Loser and sat there as the tears rolled down my face. I sooooooo want to become fit and healthy. I want to just be able to focus completely on my weight loss and to become a trialthele. I know with time and work it will happen............................stay tuned!!!!!!!!!

Theme Song

Been loooking for a theme song (why?).

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4340561426773237398&q=keith+anderson&total=380&start=0&num=10&so=0&type=search&plindex=2

When I was born in the Springfield Community Hospital, Springfield Oregon, May 5 1962 at that time i was the biggest baby born, almost 12lbs and 24 inches. I stopped growing at age 12, I now stand 6ft 4in, my son is only 16 (turned 16 this June) he stands 6ft 5in and wears a
size 16 4E

so I guess we both are XXL boys............Clydesdales all the way!!!!!

As I build the Ark.......

Well, it looks like today I will be doing my water workout...................in my basement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Today in NE Ohio we so far in the last 5 hours have had over 2 almost 3 inches of rain. My sump pump is keeping up but water has appeared along the south wall of my finished basement. My carpet is wet and I am currently relocating my desk area. All this and I work the next few days and my fall semester for my BS in Nursing online program resumes Monday (the books arrived today). Since I have little to no hair left I can't pulll my hair out.

No weight loss recorded this week. None gained either. I have had to back off my workouts with my workload increasing at work. I am seriously rethinking my nursing managment position and go back to being a staff nurse in the ICU or ER. Make more money with a LOT less stress and only work 3 12hr shifts a week!!!!!!!!!!!! This way I have more time for training.

I was watching ESPN this morning and they had on a trialthele who had subsituted his drug addiction for an addiction to competing in trialthons. HEALTHY SWITCH!!!! Here is the link, soory I don't know how to post it except for doing copy/paste:
http://broadband.espn.go.com/ivp/splash2?id=2981427
Another inspiring story. We all have our own personal demons and addictions to fight. My fight has been with food, only recently have I been able to fully recognize and accept that fact. So, I too am going use the goal of completing a trialthon in 2008 to help me with my fight.

Now let me see........the Ark it was 2 of each animal right????????????????

Pictures to come!

Missing you.................................

Sorry for the delay, been CRAZY busy with work and family. Work has been several 12hr days, too bad I get paid salary only. TJ my son has been doing his two-a-day football practices for the high school varsity football team. Looks like he is the starting nose guard on defense. My daughter Sam, who a couple weeks from moving out of the house and moving into her dorm room at Youngstown State University, Youngstown Ohio. Been looking at things that she will need for her dorm room. Funny, but I have my idea what she needs and she has her idea...wonder why we differ????????????????????????????????????????????????? My wife Jodi continues to work very hard and stays busy with her work as a NP (Nurse Practicioner). She goes out of town this weekend for a seminar, wish I could could go but, have to attend a mandatory parents breakfast this Saturday for the football team.

I continue my workouts, walking and the C25K. Also have started some weight training also. Will be adding time on the bike here soon.

The lbs continue their journey away from me. I weighed in this past weekend and had 5lbs loss this week!!!!!!!! Just been watching and counting my calories. Never going over 1500, I try to do like a 1000 one day then 1200 then 1300 then drop it back to 1000. Want to keep my body guessing just how much it will get every day so it doesn't become comfortable at reduced calories.

Still planning to do the Race for the Cure next month. Got my first shirt and bib number.

The race handout states that almost 25,000 people will be doing this 5K run........25,000 people sounds more like a walk, but its okay on a couple points. One its 25,000 people helping to raise money for a very worthy cause........to fight breast cancer. Second, its an event to have fun with either walking or running.
They have a new division this year called "Miles for Men". Where men can register and help raise money. The women wear pink and the men get our grays shirts. The blue lettering which is a little difficult to read states "Miles for Men". On the back going across the shoulders is blue lettering that states
"Men Have a Breasted Interest".
Will be looking for a 5K in October before the snow begins to fly.
Once again many thanks to all of you for your continued support.

I needed this!

I awoken to my alarm going off at 0445 this am. I was up and out the dorr to drive the hour and 20 minutes to go to Cleveland to watch the Cleveland Trialthon. It was cool about 69 F and gray overcast skies with a few drops of rain. But man it was freaking awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stayed and watched the different waves from the Supersprint to the Olympic class. Saw the start jumping off the pier and watched different people in the transistion area and the finish. So, I go watch the super sprint finsh and there are a couple big guys like me and I watch these guys and damn it.......................my eyes welled and the tears just started to flow. I kept thinking pull yourself together you big wus. I guess it was thinking that next season thats me!!!!!

The swim was smooth water inside a breakwater off Lake erie. Then on the bikes its up hill to you turn onto the shoreside freeway that they closed and the run....you finish in front of the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. It seemed to work real nice for everyone. Everyone was smiling and laughing. Man..I wish that could be me.

Can I do this? Yes I Can!!!! I Will Do It!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay down another 2 lbs this week. Eat really lousy the past couple of days, went to a wedding and had a beer or two, and maybe even had a rum and coke, but only one!

Today NBC is replaying the Ironman World Championship....will watch that!!!!!!!! I also found this really cook link: http://www.youtube.com/IronmanTriathlon a collection of Ironman related videos on YouTube.

Going to step up my workouts this week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Monday, July 23, 2007

How is this possible????

Been looking at fitday and calorieking and when I enter my weight/height/age/sex they both state that for an hour of jogging even at a snails pace I am burning (they came up with different amounts) between 675 to 900 caloris burned. I know that we burn up calorise and it depends on the activity/time/body makeup etc.

But over 600 to 900 calories burned sounds too high??????????

Didn't go to the bike shop this weekend. My wife and I went to a local park and spent the day hiking around the various trails. Nice Ohio summer day!!!!!!! Had stopped and picked up a Subway sandwich and had a picnic.

This week from Northeast Ohio...

Well work was a little better. Had a code "Code Blue" and ran the stairs (yea it was only 2 flights but it was up hill all the way) not as winded as usual, been doing my C25K and daily walks in between. Am signing with with a local community fitness center (hospital discount) and will be doing some strength training. Oh, almost forgot the patient made it, we had to shock the patient a couple times, but is doing fine.

And now for the weekly weigh in........................down 5lbs this week!!!!!!!! Total of 33lbs thank you very much. Been really watching my calories and carbs to keep them down.

Well the weathers great outside and me and the missus are going to a local bicycle shop to check out a new ride.

http://www.salemcommunitycenter.com Great place to go and workout. Indoor track, pool, etc.

Also I know I sound like a sap, but thanks again to all you and your positive comments!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rough week at work several long days (16hrs) and several days in a row (6) did my workout though and did on little sleep.

I'll Show you.................

Okay let me set the scene for you. My kids wanted to go to Borders to get a magazine or book, so I say yeah lets go. I am cruising the magazine aisle and find the recent issue of Triathlete. I pick it up. I then go to checkout counter and wait in line.

"Next in line please" I walk up to the checkout and place my magazine, a cd and a couple of items from my kids. The punk running the cash register is ringing up my items and comes to the issue of Triathlete. He picks it up and looks at the cover......then looks at me and says, "Triathlete uh"? Looks at me again and says"uhmmmm".
I had a couple of different emotions:
1) Reach over and punch him.......no might go to jail
2) Reach over and punch him again................again shouldn't do this
So, I say "none yet this year but look for me in 2008" I paused and added "asshole".
Don't know if I handled in the most adult manner, but I felt good. And yes look for me to complete a tri in 2008.
CAUTION: SUPER CLYDESDALE IN TRAINING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who I am

I also thought that I would share with you a little about me.

I am 45yr old. I live in Northeast Ohio (winter sucks!), I am married to Jodi and have two children.............Samantha 17 and TJ 16. And my old dog Shasta a black lab about 10 now.

I am a Registered Nurse. My background is ER/Trauma and Critical Care. I am currently a Nursing Supervisor. In this position we run the hospital during our shift. Since we are a small rural community hospital we do not have doctors in the hospital 24hrs a day, except for the ER. The fun part is that we run the code blue teams until the ER doctor gets there. Even when the OB dept gets busy they call us and we get to go to the nursery and sit with the babies, feed them and change them until the nurses get caught up. We do a little bit of everything. I love where I work and love what I do. Oh yeah and I alos have a small business where I teach CPR & First Aid and am doing the on-line Nursing degree (BSN) through the University of Wyoming. I am a Cowboy!!!!!!

One of the hardest terms I have to use when writing a patients assesment is using the term "obese". I am by the clinical standard defined as morbidly obese. I stand 6ft 4in and and over 400lbs. I was recently told by my family MD that I am a diabetic type 2. Time to fucking wake up!!!!!!!

I stopped growing when I was 12. Yes, at 12yrs old I was 6ft 4in. Both of my parents stood not taller than 5ft 8in. I was always the biggest but not heavy. When I completed Air Force Boot Camp (was a crash-fire rescue) I was 230lbs. But all muscle (easy girls). It wasn't until my adult years that I started to pack it on. Working the nightshift I think was my down fall. Lousy eatting patterns, lousy sleep patterns, to tired to do anything. Also being a nurse you never really get any time to eat so you either order out, eat from the vending machines or don't eat and then stop by fast food drive thru and binge out on late night Taco Bell (the fourth meal...yeah right). So, the next thing you know I became know as either "Big Steve" or "big guy".

The day that I decided to make a change was about 6-7 weeks ago. I was at one end of the hospital and then overhead you hear the speakers "CODE BLUE ROOM 3 something (on the 3rd floor). a patient was found unresponsive and required immediate attention so I sprang...no not really sprang but started moving, I was into a good jog, when I get to the other end of the hospital I thoughth I would be smart and use the surgery elevators and take then to the 3rd floor because they are always there right???????????? WRONG!!!!!!!! They were in use. F@#K! I have to use the stairs. So up the steps I go. I make it to the 3rd floor and get to the room, I shock the patient all the time huffing and puffing. I have beads of sweat all over my forehead. We get the patient turned around and settle them in and a LPN and I walk out to the nurses station to call the patients MD and tell them the events that took place when the LPN turns to me and says" I thought we were going to have to code you". "Mr.Steve this is your inner voice and this is your wake up call................get yourself together dumbass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never planned on being this big, but it happened. So, here I am blogging in cyberspace my adventures as I take on a journey of becoming healthy and fit. My goal is to become a Clydesdale and complete (key word....complete a trialthon in 2008). Right now I call myself a Super Clydesdale. My first event is this Sept 9/15/07 the Race for a Cure in Cleveland, Ohio a 5k.

I have enjoyed reading everyones blogging and would also like to thank each and everyone for your suggestions and kind words of encouragement.

Stay tuned and be on the lookout in Northeast Ohio for this Super Clydesdale!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah I know a little over the top .........................but maybe not...........4lbs down this week. I have been following Weight Watchers but kinda doing my own thing. I eat less than they say to and I watch my cals/fat and carbs, everything that they say not to do. I am walking everyother days and doing the C25K. Oh and I cut WAAAAAAY back on the diet soda. One per day and tons of good old H2O.

Super Clydesdale

When cruising a few of the blogs and websites on becoming a tri-guy, I came across the term "Super Clydesdale". This term is used for us bigger guys. Love it!!!!!!! When also doing a search for local trialthons in my area (NE Ohio) I came across an event that had in its male divisions....male XL1...male XL2 ......male XL3 225lbs+. Shows like an event for me next year???????????

Been doing a lot of reading and following several different blogs. You ALL inspire me!!!

Thanks for the kind words that you have been leaving for me.

Yeah I updated my blog name (address stayed the same) I like that Super Clydesdale term.

Going one step at a time!!!!!!!

Better day today.

First, I would like to thank the people that have left comments and both of the Wimmers for their e-mails. Thanks for the encouraging words!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay today was weigh in day.....................drum roll please..............................4lbs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know its not setting records, but I am losing. Down 16lbs 4 weeks. Been doing my mile a day routine. Found a training program "The Couch to 5K Running Plan" on http://www.coolrunning.com/

Set a goal for this fall:
Susan G Komen Run for the Cure 5k walk/run Date: September 15 in Cleveland, Ohio.
It is a great cause being a RN and also something that this big guy could do.

Changed the look I think it is a little easier to read.

Bummer Weekend!

Not a good weekend for me. Worked about 45 hours Friday/Sat/Sunday. Am really tried today. Didn't really follow my points this weekend, was really busy and skipped a meal or two and then ended up raiding the damn vending machine.

Well will go to bed early tonite and get up in the am and go for a walk.

Had a Subway salad tonite with a liter of water. I AM FULL!!!!!!!! Not sure of the points but it can't be that many.

Thursday, June 14, 2007

What????

Weighed in and did not lose a pound this past week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wasn't the best during this past week I must admit. Following Weight Watchers (WW) point system. I did however order a smaller pant size for a new set of scrubs to wear to work. So, maybe all not too bad. This week is tough going out quite a few times. Will eat lite(?). Will post a new goal soon so you can see whatg I am working towards.

Wednesday, June 6, 2007

What a day!

Weighed myself today, down 12lbs since I started doing the points on weight watchers a little more than 2 weeks ago............and I taught two CPR classes today.

Okay, a little more about me, I am a Registered Nurse. I have a background in ER/Critical Care, I am currently a Nursing Supervisor in a small rural community hospital here in Ohio. On the side I teach CPR & First Aid Training. Its more about helping people learn this skill and having fun teaching the classes than doing it for the money. I have all of my own gear (manikins, AED trainer etc) and I go to doctors offices, daycare centers wherever anyone needs CPR.

I choose to do WW due to the ease of following the point system. My wife is doing it with me. As you can see in the posted picture I am a "big guy". It took a while to put on the weight and it will take a while to take it off. I am in it for the long haul.

Day One No More Big Guy

Well today marks day one in the journey to a better fit and healthy me. My name is Steve . I am 45 years old, married to Jodi, have two children Samm & TJ. Oh yeah and my dog Shasta. And if I didn't tell you, I am overweight. I hate the term obese. I work as a RN and I hate writing that word when writing my assessment of a patient. Thats me on the right the big guy with glasses. (My daughter graduated from high school yesterday, I am very proud of her. She is planning to go into Nursing, following in her father and her mother (mom is also a RN) footsteps. The goof ball on the left is my son TJ.

My intent with this blog is to keep a running journal of my weight loss success and failures as I work to become healthy and fit.

MY PLAN:
Follow a healthy diet, by using the Weight Watchers plan. Combined with a healthy dose of exercise.
My Goal:
Summer 2008 run in a local 5k !!!!!!!!
Stay tuned and wish me luck and success!!!!!
